How to Use
- Rinse briefly and soak 5–10 minutes — millet flakes hydrate faster than rice aval
- Upma: temper mustard, urad dal, curry leaf, onion and chilli; fold in the drained flakes and cook 3–4 minutes
- Porridge: simmer in milk or water for 5 minutes with jaggery, banana and nuts
- Overnight bowl: soak in curd or milk overnight with fruit
- Chivda: dry-roast, then toss with roasted groundnut, curry leaf and spices
Storage Instructions
- Airtight jar in a cool, dry place, away from steam.
- Best quality within 4–6 months — pearl millet carries more fat than ragi, so these flakes turn faster than ragi flakes.
- Refrigerate during Chennai summers.
- Do not store beside the stove.
- Always use a dry spoon.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use these exactly like poha?
Yes — the same recipes. Just soak less, five to ten minutes, because they soften faster.
Which flakes for a growing child — ragi or kambu?
Ragi flakes are the calcium-rich choice and kambu flakes the iron-rich one. Many families keep both and rotate.
Do they need washing?
A quick single rinse. Over-washing makes them mushy.
